Peter

About Peter

Peter was from another place. He was the oldest of seven. His mother’s life goal was perfection and raising the children from “The Sound of Music.” I was told stories of how she would have to stand at attention with her brother to be inspected when her father came home from work. I was also told how Peter would cry if he got dirty and often changed his clothes during the day. The bottom line is that Peter desired perfection in everything he did. Not desired but demanded. His father was the enforcer and quite the violent type. Especially while under the influence of alcohol. Stories of him breaking his wife’s wrist (Peter’s mother), flooding the kitchen with an outdoor hose, yelling, belittling, and physical violence abound. To this day I don’t understand why I discounted all the red flags – especially when my mother stressed how important it was how a man treated his mother.
