Red #40

I wanted to call my daughter and tell her that Red Dye #40 and other food dyes that have been banned: “West Virginia has outlawed foods that contain some artificial dyes or other additives…” I wanted to at least text her over my excitement, even though it took over 30 years for people to start recognizing how food and additives affect the human body – especially developing children.

I wanted to call my sister and announce Red #40 is finally being banned elsewhere other than California in the US. California was the first state to ban it in September 2024.

I wanted to shout in the streets and proclaim that I figured it out in 1992 when my daughter would be Jeckle and Hyde after certain foods but I didn’t know what. I heard about this author, Doris Rapp, who was on the Phil Donahue TV Show promoting her book, “Is This My Child.” After reading the book, I applied her techniques of an elimination diet.

I couldn’t call or talk or text or email anyone. It’s a thing I have where I get stuck. It’s like Kryptonite and paralyzes me. That allows anyone else to create a false narrative about me and spread it around. I’m not social and not many people like me anyway. As I grow older, it becomes harder and harder to pretend I’m normal and to come out and speak. When conflict is involved forget it- I just clam up.
